M/V Violations Issued

M/V Violations measure traffic tickets issued by the Police Department, and may include both civil and criminal penalties. The actual number of traffic violations (e.g., speeding, red light running, cell phone use while driving) in a community is typically several orders of magnitude higher than the number of tickets issued. A higher number of tickets is not necessarily an indication of more violations Ð in fact, more tickets typically lead to a lower number of actual violations. Increased traffic enforcement may have additional quality of life benefits, such as arrests in other crimes and lower property damage and injury.
