Health Indicators

Health indicators include measures of birth outcomes, information on the prevalence of diseases, as well as indicators of other policies, conditions or behaviors that can directly impact well-being. Given that the underlying causes of disease are multifaceted and that the true measure of health is not only the absence of disease, but a "state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being," we encourage the use of other indicators of social, economic, safety, and community health known as the Social Determinants Of Health (SDOH). Like the nation, Connecticut has significant disparities in health outcomes across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups. Addressing these will require smart choices by policymakers - this is known as a "Health In All Policies" approach.
