Connecticut Commission on Health Equity Data Portal

Purpose

The focus of the Connecticut Commission on Health Equity Data Portal is on the development of and access to more and better data to drive improvements in health outcomes and reduce health disparities and inequities in Connecticut. In this section of the portal, we will build a body of knowledge based on our collective experience in using the available health and related indicators and measures and in developing new, more robust indicators and measures to drive reductions in disparities.

Data Documentation

In the Knowledge Center, we will document the origin, importance, and limitations of the indicators we are using through a dedicated page for each indicator. The documentation includes the technical definition of the indicator; the numerator, denominator; the numerator, denominator, and calculation; the source, publisher, and method of collection of the data; the strengths and limitations of the indicator; its importance and relevance to results for young children; available disaggregations; and related indicators. The publishers of the data, in nearly all cases state agencies, will be given an opportunity to review and comment on the documentation, and their feedback will be incorporated into the official documentation as appropriate. Users are also encouraged to comment on all of these fields and to offer any additional information they think is relevant. The developers will periodically review user comments and, as appropriate, incorporate them into the official documentation.

We hope that, with time, the comments by users will develop into a robust wiki containing discussions of the ways in which communities and organizations are using the indicators to develop strategies and track progress toward results; links to research and best practices; and technical assistance and support for the community of Portal users.

To access the information on a particular measure or indicator, go to the Data Catalog to find and select the measure about which you are seeking information using the "?" feature to the left of the indicator name. In the Weave It! visualizations, you can click on the "?" icon to the right of the indicator name in the selector box above the visualization.
