U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Regional and Economic Market Analysis database: HUD economists maintain current data on housing market conditions in the region and prepare regional economic and housing summaries for use in the Department's quarterly publication, "U.S. Housing Market Conditions." They provide quarterly economic updates and respond to requests for reports and briefing materials on specific topics such as housing market conditions, affordable housing needs and homeownership trends. 3. Federal Housing Finance Agency Housing Price Indexes: http://www.fhfa.gov/Default.aspx?Page=87 The HPI serves as a timely, accurate indicator of house price trends at various geographic levels. Because of the breadth of the sample, it provides more information than is available in other house price indexes. It also provides housing economists with an improved analytical tool that is useful for estimating changes in the rates of mortgage defaults, prepayments and housing affordability in specific geographic areas.
